eBay Vintage Japanese – KUTANI Geisha Girls Chocolate Tea set c.1900’s. 37 Pieces in total. 1 – Tea cup that is blue chocolate different set 1 – Teacup that is of a different set. 1 – plate w/ Mini Creamer (2 pieces)(this one says Japan backwards). This piece I believe to be dated between 1921 and 1939 as the Japanese wrote backwards prior to WW2 in a writing form called “Tategaki”. 1- Large Scalloped Bowl. This has some markings underneath that seem to be fading and I have had a hard time deciphering its meaning. 6 – Small Scalloped Bowls or Soy Sauce bowls. 2 have yellowing on the back as if they have been repaired and cracks can be seen. (unmarked). 6 – Large Scalloped Plates for Salad or Desert. (unmarked). 6 – Teacups (Unmarked). 6 – Saucers (Unmarked). 6 – Medium Scalloped Plates. Possible Bread and Butter/Scones. (Unmarked). 1 – Teapot with Lid (2 Pieces)(Unmarked). The set is almost complete as it is missing the sugar bowl and proper creamer. I am not a 100% sure as to the exact nature of this set and I am by no means an expert. Due to the light weight and color transparency I feel like there is a good chance they could be Bone China or it may fall under soft-paste china. From what I read on markings. If it was marked Japan it was made and imported after 1921. Markings did not become established in the manufacturing process until after 1850. Many of these pieces are not marked. But I don’t think that it outright means they are prior 1850. Bone China was first created in 1748. There are 3 types of China. Bone, Soft-Paste and Hard-Paste. While these pieces seem to be highly translucent they also seemed whiter than the Color of Bone which is said to have a more Ivory coloring. Also I read that Pieces that are heavily gilded with gold are to have been produced prior to 1910-1915. It was around this time that they used smaller amounts of gilding to reduce the expense of production. I do believe at least they are early 1900’s. Absolutely Gorgeous collection.
