International became not only renown for the quality of its fine silver, it became the world’s largest manufacturer of silverware. The History of Spoon Rings Spoon rings are believed to have originated in England in the 1600’s. The story is that servants that couldn’t afford a ‘real’ wedding ring would steal a silver spoon from their master and have it crafted into a ring. For a poor person a stolen spoon was to best, and easiest, way to give the woman they loved a beautiful ring. As the practice spread more and more silverware ‘went missing’ but since spoons were usually monogrammed, and newlyweds on staff were known to all, it wasn’t hard to find the culprit and what was left of the spoon.
